What is Lomilomi?
LomiLomi is the Hawaiian word for the traditional massage practiced in the Islands. It literally means "Rub-Rub" but is far more than a simple physical manipulation of the muscles. In fact, native practitioners will say that the massage is only the physical manifestation of the spiritual energy transmitted by the practitioner through their hands. When we are out of alignment with our own Divine Nature and the connection to Source which is our birthright, the body will express that misalignment through muscle pain, disease, and psychological dysfunction. This is fundamentally a shamanic viewpoint, shared by all indigenous healers in every tradition and culture. Every true Lomi, though its techniques vary greatly depending on the different family traditions, share this spiritual conviction: that the physical massage component is only a means of restoring spiritual balance in the body.
But it is through the use of unconditional loving touch, in concert with continual prayer throughout the treatment, that the Body is soothed back into alignment with the Spirit it houses, so that they can function together as one unified whole. Although deep tissue work is often a part of the session, I have found, through more than a decade of practice, that what many people have never experienced, what they often lack in their lives now, is a truly loving touch that listens to and acknowledges the spirit as the hands glide over the body. It is this Aloha that I bring to every stroke, so that every person who lies on my table, feels truly, that they are a child of the Divine.
